ReSolute: transforming non-food biomass

PFA-Brussels is pleased to announce that we are part of the multi-million RESOLUTE (HIGH PERFORMING AND SAFE SOLVENT DERIVED FROM CELLULOSIC FEEDSTOCKS) Horizon 2020 project, which paves the way for the production of a novel, low toxicity and high performing solvent derived from sustainable sources: Cyrene™.

The Consortium brings together 11 partners from industry and academia that over the next three years will take the necessary steps to build an efficient plant in Europe to produce up to 1000 tpa of Cyrene™ and comply with EU regulations. The biorefinery will be the first to convert, in a single step, non-food renewable biomass into the building block levoglucosenone, and convert it into valuable derivatives including Cyrene™.

Novel applications will be explored as well as the performance of Cyrene™ as a green solvent replacement for more traditional solvents that are under regulatory scrutiny, such as NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone).

PFA will work closely with Circa, the product developers who are at the core of the ReSolute activities, to bring our team’s regulatory compliance experience and expertise to support the project.

The project coordinators, IAR, have released additional information on the project and the partners involved https://www.iar-pole.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/cp-resolute-kick-off-en.pdf
