REACH impact business survey

April 1st, 2014

A survey of the impact of REACH on business has been conducted by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Nearly 200 businesses were included in the survey of the industry views and experiences of the REACH registrations completed in 2010 and 2013. The general findings were that there were high costs associated with registration, and difficulties in communications along the supply chain. Twenty-five companies indicated that the high registration cost forced them to withdraw substances.

PFA can help to reduce registration costs by establishing a strategic test plan with robust read across arguments. We will also make optimum use of already available information. The impact survey also reported problems in supply chain communication, confidentiality and obtaining information about specific uses. PFA has considerable experience in obtaining and compiling information from complex supply chains for the preparation of REACH dossiers. As an independent consultant, it is possible to provide this service without compromising confidential, business-sensitive information.  For an easy and commercially viable registration, PFA offers consultancy in strategic planning and dossier preparation, with years of experience in managing confidential information for REACH registration consortia.
