ECHA publishes annual evaluation report

February 28th, 2014

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published the annual evaluation report on REACH registration dossiers. The report includes recommendations for registrants. In 2013 the focus was on compliance checking, and it was found that the majority of inspected dossiers required further information to be submitted. The checks included looking at test proposals, read-across and category approaches.

The key recommendations published by ECHA are:

  • to keep each dossier up to date
  • to be ready to respond to a potential draft decision
  • to always justify the chosen strategy and any adaptations made
  • to ensure that each chemical safety report is reflective of the actual uses and risks.

Finally, ECHA emphasises that registering a substance is a long term commitment and that the responsibility to keep the dossier up to date lies with the registrant.
